16.46

舉：「雪峯問僧：『近離甚處？』僧云：『覆船。』峯云：『生死海未渡，為什麼覆却船？』僧無語，覆船代云：『渠無生死。』雪竇代云：『久響雪峯。』師代云：『便與掀倒禪床。』」師云：「雪峯有驗人句，覆船有透關眼，雪竇有陷虎機。且道：崇寧成得箇什麼邊事？」

[The Master] cited: "Xuefeng asked a monk, 'Where have you recently left?' The monk said, 'Fuchuan [Overturned Boat].' Feng said, 'The sea of birth and death is not yet crossed; why have you overturned the boat?' The monk had no words. Fuchuan said in his place, 'He has no birth and death.' Xuedou said in his place, 'I have long echoed Xuefeng.' The Master said in his place, 'I would immediately overturn the meditation seat for him.'" The Master said, "Xuefeng had the phrase to test people; Fuchuan had the eye to penetrate the barrier; Xuedou had the dynamic to trap the tiger. Tell me: what aspect of the matter has Chongning accomplished?"
