17.52

舉：「臨濟道：『一喝分賓主，照用一時行。』」師喝一喝云：「且道：是賓是主？是照是用？還委悉麼？千峯勢到嶽邊止，萬派聲歸海上消。」

He cited: "Linji said, 'A single shout distinguishes host and guest, illumination and function operating at once.'"
The Master gave a shout and said, "Tell me: is it host or guest? Is it illumination or function? Do you understand thoroughly? 'The force of a thousand peaks ceases when reaching the high mountain; / The sound of ten thousand streams vanishes upon returning to the sea.'"
