19.93

舉：「南泉示眾云：『昨夜文殊普賢起佛見法見，每人與二十棒，貶向二鐵圍山去也。』趙州出云：『和尚棒教唯喫？』泉云：『王老師有什麼過？』州禮拜，泉下座歸方丈。」

He cited: "Nanquan instructed the assembly, saying: 'Last night Mañjuśrī and Samantabhadra gave rise to views of Buddha and views of Dharma. I gave each of them twenty blows with the staff and banished them to the two Iron Surrounding Mountains.' Zhaozhou came forward and said: 'Whom will the Venerable Sir order to take the blows of your staff?' Nanquan said: 'What fault does Old Master Wang have?' Zhaozhou made a prostration; Nanquan stepped down from the seat and returned to the Abbot's quarters."
