[The Master] cited: "Xuefeng instructed the assembly, saying, 'When the world is ten feet wide, the ancient mirror is ten feet wide; when the world is one foot wide, the ancient mirror is one foot wide.' Xuansha pointed to the fire stove and said, 'Tell me, how wide is the fire stove?' Feng said, 'As wide as the ancient mirror.' Sha said, 'The venerable monk's heels have not yet touched the ground.'" The Master said, "A ready-made gong'an: the ancient mirror is originally not the fire stove; break open the cage and netting, and the fire stove is the ancient mirror. Were it not for father and son matching potential, how could one see their utter sincerity, piece by piece? How do you all understand his saying, 'This old fellow's heels have not yet touched the ground'? The Tathāgata's precious staff leaves its own footprints."
