Ascending the seat, [the Master] said: "Covering heaven and covering earth, wherever you touch, you meet Him; spanning antiquity and spanning the present, the authentic substance is fully manifest. Dharmas have no distinct characteristics and do not fall into birth and death; time has no distinct conditions and is uninvolved in autumns and springs. Therefore it is said: 'Dwelling in the flow of birth and death, the black dragon's pearl shines alone in the vast ocean; seated upon the shore of nirvāṇa, the cassia-moon radiates solitary and bright in the azure sky.' Just so, beneath everyone's feet, radiance surges through past and present, far surpassing views and knowledge; the six sense spheres cannot snare or hold it, and the triple world cannot gather or contain it. Only directly taking charge of it right before you, you instantly see liberation clearly. Right at just such a time, how is it? In heaven, all stars revere the North Star; among humans, no water fails to flow toward the east."
