2.26

上堂：「今朝九月初五，天色半晴半雨，衲僧鼻孔眼睛，切忌和泥合土。」乃顧視大眾云：「惺惺直是惺惺，靈利不妨靈利，等閑問著十人，五雙不知落處。既惺惺又靈利，為甚麼不知落處？不見道：事因叮囑起。」

Ascending the hall: "Today is the fifth day of the ninth month; the weather is half clear and half rain. Patch-robed monks' nostrils and eyes must strictly avoid mixing with mud and blending with dirt." He then looked around at the great assembly and said, "Awake indeed is awake, and clever is undeniably clever; casually ask ten people, and five pairs do not know the landing place. Since they are both awake and clever, why do they not know the landing place? Have you not heard it said: 'Trouble arises from giving instructions'?"
