2.34

上堂，舉：「僧問趙州：『毫釐有差時如何？』州云：『天地懸隔。』僧云：『毫釐無差時如何？』州云：『天地懸隔。』」師云：「諸人要識趙州麼？慣從五鳳樓前過，手握金鞭賀太平。」

Ascending the high seat, he cited: "A monk asked Zhaozhou, 'How is it when there is a hair's breadth of difference?' Zhou said, 'Heaven and earth are separated as by a chasm.' The monk said, 'How is it when there is not a hair's breadth of difference?' Zhou said, 'Heaven and earth are separated as by a chasm.'" The Master said, "Do you want to know Zhaozhou? Accustomed to passing before the Five Phoenix Tower, he holds a golden whip in hand to congratulate on the era of great peace."
