上堂，舉：「鏡清問玄沙：『學人乍入叢林，乞師指箇入路？』沙云：『還聞偃谿水聲麼？』清云：『聞。』沙云：『從這裏入。』鏡清於此得箇入處。五祖師翁云：『果是得入，一任四方八面；若也未然，輒不得離却這裏。』」師云：「若要真箇得入，直須離却這裏。」下座。

Ascending the hall, [the Master] cited: "Jingqing asked Xuansha, 'This student has just entered the monastery; I beg the master to point out a way in.' Xuansha said, 'Do you hear the sound of the water in Yan Stream?' Jingqing said, 'I hear it.' Xuansha said, 'Enter from here.' Jingqing obtained an entry at this. Grand-master Wuzu said, 'If you truly obtain an entry, you are entirely free to go in all four quarters and eight directions; but if that is not yet so, you must not depart from here under any circumstances.'" The Master said, "If you want to truly obtain an entry, you must depart from here immediately." He descended from the seat.
