The master then cited: "Jingqing asked Xuansha: 'This student has just entered the monastic grove; I beg the master to point out a way of entry.' Xuansha said: 'Do you hear the sound of the water in the Yan stream?' Jingqing said: 'I hear it.' Xuansha said: 'Enter from here.' Jingqing thereupon attained an entry point. Venerable Wuzu said: 'If you truly attain entry, you are free in all directions; if not yet so, on no account may you leave this place.' Uncle-Patriarch Dahui said: 'If you want to truly attain entry, you must depart directly from this place.'" The master said: "The three great elders are all caught in the appearance of diverging paths; rubbing against black lacquer buckets, what joy is there in that? Jingshan is not so: even the single word 'entry' I do not care to hear."
