6.24

上堂：「門外春將半，山房總不知，可憐拄杖子，暗裏自抽枝。」遂拈起拄杖云：「這箇是拄杖子，那箇是抽底枝。」擲下云：「直下來也，休眼皷眵。」

Ascending the hall, [the Master] said: "Beyond the gate spring is half gone, yet the mountain room knows nothing of it; pitiable is the staff, sprouting branches in secret on its own." Thereupon he took up his staff and said: "This is the staff—which is the branch that sprouts?" Throwing it down, he said: "It comes straight down; do not let your eyes be filled with discharge!"
