8.18

示眾，舉：「教中道：『生滅滅已，寂滅現前。』」師云：「真生無可生，真滅無可滅，寂滅忽現前，蝦蟆吞却月。」

He instructed the assembly by citing: "In the teachings it says: 'When arising and ceasing are extinguished, quiescent extinction appears before you.'"

The Master said: "True arising has nothing that can arise; true ceasing has nothing that can cease. When quiescent extinction suddenly appears before you, the toad swallows the moon." He stepped down from the seat.
