8.41

示眾，舉：「僧問睦州：『一言道盡時如何？』州云：『老僧在爾鉢囊裏。』又問雲門：『一言道盡時如何？』門云：『裂破。』」師云：「或有人問山僧：『一言道盡時如何？』這漆桶。」

Instructing the assembly, he brought up [the following]: "A monk asked Muzhou, 'How is it when a single word expresses it completely?' Muzhou said, 'This old monk is inside your bowl-bag.' He also asked Yunmen, 'How is it when a single word expresses it completely?' Yunmen said, 'Torn to pieces.'" The Master said, "If someone were to ask this mountain monk, 'How is it when a single word expresses it completely?' You lacquer bucket!"
