9.25

問僧：「道不用修，但莫污染，如何是不污染底道？」僧云：「某甲不敢道。」師云：「爾為甚麼不敢道？」僧云：「恐污染。」師高聲叫云：「行者將糞箕苕帚來。」僧茫然，師便打出。

He asked a monk, "'The Way needs no cultivation, just do not defile it.' What is the Way that is not defiled?" The monk said, "I dare not speak." The Master said, "Why do you not dare speak?" The monk said, "I fear defiling it." The Master called out in a loud voice, "Postulant, bring the dung basket and broom!" The monk was at a loss; the Master drove him out with blows.
