翠巖真點胸，嘗罵舜老夫說無事禪，石霜永和尚令人傳語真云：「舜在洞山悟古鏡因緣如此，豈是說無事禪？爾罵他，自失却一隻眼。」舜聞之作頌云：「雲居不會禪，洗脚上床眠，冬瓜直儱侗，瓠子曲彎彎。」永和尚亦作頌曰：「石霜不會禪，洗脚上床眠，枕子撲落地，打破常住甎。」舜一日上堂云：「黃昏後脫𮧬打睡，晨朝起來，旋打行纏，夜來風吹籬倒，普請奴子劈筏縛起。」下座。

Cuiyan Zhen of the Pointing Chest once reviled the old fellow Shun for preaching Chan of no-affairs. Reverend Shishuang Yong sent someone to convey a message to Zhen, saying: 'Shun's awakening to the ancient mirror story at Dongshan was like that; how could he be preaching Chan of no-affairs? In reviling him, you have lost an eye yourself.' When Shun heard this, he composed a verse, saying: 'Yunju does not understand Chan; / He washes his feet, gets into bed, and sleeps. / The winter melon is completely straight and round; / The gourd is curved and crooked.' Reverend Yong also composed a verse, saying: 'Shishuang does not understand Chan; / He washes his feet, gets into bed, and sleeps. / The pillow clatters to the ground, / Smashing the brick of the permanent property.' One day, Shun ascended the hall and said: 'After dusk I take off my socks and sleep; / Rising in the morning, I wind on my gaiters. / Last night the wind blew the fence down; / I summon all the laborers to split bamboo rafts and bind it up.' He then stepped down from the seat.
