1.57

須菩提解空第一，生時家室盡空，世尊纔陞座，須菩提便出眾云：「希有世尊，且道：『見箇什麼道理？便恁麼道。天親菩薩作無量偈，只贊希有二字。』」圓悟禪師云：「一句是一箇鐵橛，故六祖聞應無所住而生其心，便悟去。」

Subhūti was foremost in understanding emptiness; when he was born, his household was completely empty. As soon as the World-Honoured One ascended the seat, Subhūti came forward from the assembly and said, "How rare, World-Honoured One! Now tell me: what truth did he see that made him speak like this? Bodhisattva Vasubandhu composed countless verses merely praising the two words 'how rare.'" Chan Master Yuanwu said, "Each sentence is an iron stake. Therefore, when the Sixth Ancestor heard 'One should give rise to the mind without abiding anywhere,' he immediately awakened."
