請典座，上堂，舉：「夾山在溈山充典座，溈山一日問：『今日堂中喫甚菜？』座云：『兩年同一春。』山云：『如法修事著。』座云：『龍宿鳳巢。』」師云：「柄霸在手縱奪臨時，敲磕將來百味具足。其中只欠一味，且道是油是醬？若點檢得出，華藏功不浪施；其或未然，更聽重下注脚。輔弼宗門有老成，一番提掇一番新，咬薑呷醋知醎淡，便是叢林過量人。」

Appointing the head cook, he ascended the hall and cited: "Jiashan served as the head cook at Guishan. One day Guishan asked, 'What vegetables will be eaten in the hall today?' The cook said, 'Two years share the same spring.' Guishan said, 'Prepare and serve it in accordance with the Dharma.' The cook said, 'A dragon roosts in a phoenix's nest.'" The Master said: "The handle of authority is in hand, to release or snatch at will; when tapped together, the hundred flavors are fully present. Among them, just one flavor is missing. Tell me, is it oil or is it sauce? If you can inspect and bring it out, Huazang's labor has not been in vain; if not yet so, listen further to the footnote added again: To assist the ancestral gate requires a seasoned veteran; brought up once, it is renewed once. Chewing ginger and sipping vinegar, knowing salty and bland—this is the extraordinary person of the monasteries."
