上堂：「一進一退，一動一靜，須信那伽常在定；一擒一縱，一殺一活，四方八面話鱍鱍。嘉州大象喫鹽多，陝府鐵牛添得渴。若作佛法商量，喫鐵棒有日在。」

Ascending the hall: "One advance and one retreat, one movement and one stillness—one must believe that the nāga is constantly in samādhi; one capture and one release, one killing and one reviving—lively and kicking from all directions. The great elephant of Jiazhou eats plenty of salt; the iron bull of Shanzhou Prefecture adds to its thirst. If you deliberate on this as the Buddha Dharma, the day you eat the iron staff is yet to come."
