上堂，舉：「僧問投子：『月未圓時如何？』子云：『吞却三箇四箇。』僧云：『圓後如何？』子云：『吐却七箇八箇。』」師云：「吞却與吐却，算來無處著，要見滑稽人，便是王番綽。」

Ascending the hall, he cited: "A monk asked Touzi: 'How is it before the moon is full?' Touzi said: 'Swallow three or four.' The monk said: 'How is it after it is full?' Touzi said: 'Spit out seven or eight.'" The master said: "Swallowing and spitting out— / on reckoning, there is nowhere to put them. / If you want to see a clownish man, / it is just Wang Fanchuo."
