上堂，僧問：「世尊道：『見見之時，見非是見，見猶離見，見不能及』時如何？」師云：「一槌擊碎。」進云：「只如山河大地日月星辰，樅然前陳，離見見底是箇什麼？」師云：「分身兩處看。」進云：「直得描不成畫不就。」師云：「也是齋後鐘。」

Ascending the hall, a monk asked: "When the Bhagavat says, 'At the time of seeing seeing, seeing is not seeing; seeing is still separate from seeing, seeing cannot reach it'—how is it then?" The master said: "Smash it to pieces with a single hammer blow." The monk advanced and said: "Just as the mountains, rivers, the great earth, sun, moon, and stars are arrayed tall and dense before us, what is that which is seen apart from seeing?" The master said: "Divide the body and look in two places." The monk advanced and said: "It cannot be sketched, nor can it be painted." The master said: "That too is the bell after the meal."
