上元上堂：「十五日已前，明頭來明頭打；十五日已後，暗頭來暗頭打；正當十五日，一燈然百千燈，燈燈相續廓徹聖凡。觀世音菩薩將錢買胡餅，放下因什麼却是箇鐵酸豏？若作佛法商量，故是匙挑不上；不作佛法商量，平地陷人無數。總不與麼，也是食飽傷心。」下座。

On the Lantern Festival, he ascended the hall and said: "Before the fifteenth day, when brightness comes, strike brightness; after the fifteenth day, when darkness comes, strike darkness. Right on the fifteenth day, one lamp lights hundreds of thousands of lamps, lamp after lamp succeeding continuously, thoroughly penetrating sage and ordinary. Guanyin Bodhisattva takes money to buy a sesame cake; putting it down, why turns it out to be an iron sour cake? If you deliberate on it as Buddhadharma, it is surely something a spoon cannot pick up; if you do not deliberate on it as Buddhadharma, on flat ground it traps countless people. Even if you do neither of these, it is still grief from a full belly." He descended from the seat.
