Ascending the hall at Duanwu: "On the fifth day of the fifth month, the Duanwu Festival, overcast clouds gather densely, but the sweet rain is not yet decided. The ruler has bestowed precious incense; under the forest, prayers are earnest. May the auspicious dragon assist the season well, bringing a single rain to moisten what is parched and withered, bringing pervasive coolness across the earth to dispel the scorching afflictions. I recall a monk asking Qianfeng, 'The Bhagavats of the ten directions have one road to the gate of nirvāṇa. Where, may I ask, is the beginning of the road?' Qianfeng drew a line with his staff and said, 'It is here.' The monk later requested further instruction from Yunmen. Yunmen took up the fan in his hand and said, 'The fan leaps up to the thirty-three heavens and pokes Śakra's nostril; giving the carp of the eastern sea one strike, rain pours down like from basins.' Great assembly! Qianfeng shook his head, Yunmen wagged his tail, hanging upon people's lips and teeth from ancient times to today. Jingshan follows established precedents." He took up his staff, threw it down, and said: "You will see clouds and thunder rumbling up from the earth."
