上堂：「譬如擲劍揮空，莫論及之不及，斯乃空輪絕跡劍刃無虧。正與麼時如何？」遂顧視左右云：「填溝塞壑無人會，雨過夜塘秋水深。」

Ascending the hall: "It is like throwing a sword and slashing through empty space: do not discuss whether it reaches or does not reach. This is the wheel of empty space leaving no trace, and the sword's edge suffering no nick. Exactly at such a time, how is it?" He then looked to the left and right and said: "Filling the ditches and plugging the valleys, no one understands; after the rain over the night pond, the autumn water is deep."
