1.71

上元上堂：「今朝上元節，是處掛燈毬，一燈燃百千燈，燈燈相續，重重無盡，如寶絲網。三世諸佛向光影裏出現；六代祖師向光影裏說法度人；四聖六凡向光影裏頭出頭沒；山河大地向光影裏成立。諸人若信得及去，覓其光影來處了不可得，便乃坐斷報化佛頭；若信不及，十二時中被光影使得七顛八倒。」

On the Lantern Festival, he ascended the hall: "Today is the Lantern Festival; everywhere lantern balls are hung. One lamp ignites hundreds and thousands of lamps, lamp after lamp continuing, layer upon layer without end, like a precious silk net. The Buddhas of the three periods appear within light and shadow; the six generations of patriarchs preach the Dharma and save people within light and shadow; the four kinds of sages and six kinds of ordinary beings emerge and submerge within light and shadow; the mountains, rivers, and great earth are established within light and shadow. If you can thoroughly believe this, seeking where light and shadow come from is completely impossible, and you will then sit atop the heads of the reward and transformation Buddhas. If you cannot believe it, throughout the twelve periods of the day you will be driven topsy-turvy by light and shadow."
