2.77

上堂，僧問：「若論戰也箇箇力在轉處，此意如何？」師云：「猶是死法。」僧云：「作麼生是活法？」師云：「逆風張帆。」僧云：「二林今日自納敗闕。」師云：「年老成精。」僧云：「大力量人，因甚擡脚不起？」師云：「師子咬人，韓獹逐塊。」僧云：「開口因甚不在舌頭上？」師云：「抱贓叫屈。」僧云：「明眼衲僧，因甚脚跟下紅絲線不斷？」師云：「貪多嚼不細。」僧云：「昔日松源，今朝和尚。」師云：「牢記取。」

Ascending the hall, a monk asked: "If we discuss warfare, everyone's strength lies in the turn; what is the meaning of this?" The master said: "It is still a dead method." The monk said: "What is the living method?" The master said: "Hoisting the sail against the wind." The monk said: "Today Shuanglin admits defeat on his own." The master said: "Growing old and turning into a spirit." The monk said: "A person of great strength—why can he not lift his feet?" The master said: "A lion bites the person; the hound of Han chases the clod." The monk said: "Why does opening the mouth not depend on the tongue?" The master said: "Holding the stolen goods while crying injustice." The monk said: "A clear-eyed patch-robed monk—why is the red silk thread under his heels unbroken?" The master said: "Greedy for too much, he chews it not fine." The monk said: "Songyuan in the past, the upādhyāya today." The master said: "Keep it firmly in mind."
