8.100

師乃舉：「禪客所問，城東聖母，與佛同生，不願見佛，每見佛來，即便回避。一日回避不及，乃以手掩面，於十指掌，悉皆見佛，輒成一頌：城東聖母坐蓮臺，大地眾生正眼開，與佛同生嫌見佛，一身難作二如來。」

The Master then cited: "What the Zen guest asked: 'The Holy Mother of the East of the City, born together with the Buddha, did not wish to see the Buddha. Whenever she saw the Buddha coming, she would immediately avoid him. One day, unable to avoid him in time, she covered her face with her hands, and in all ten fingers and palms she saw the Buddha.' I venture a verse:
The Holy Mother of the East of the City sits on a lotus pedestal;
The right eye of all sentient beings of the great earth opens.
Born together with the Buddha, she loathes seeing the Buddha;
One body can hardly make two Tathāgatas."
