9.12

上堂：「鴉作鴉鳴，鵲作鵲噪，盡大地人，不知孔竅。忽有箇漢出來道：『大唐國裏有人在。』老僧不覺屈膝吐舌。何故？將謂無人。」

He ascended the hall: "Crows make the cry of crows; magpies make the chatter of magpies. People across the whole earth do not know the apertures. If suddenly a fellow came forward and said, 'In the Great Tang empire there is someone,' this old monk would unconsciously bend his knees and stick out his tongue. Why? Because I thought there was no one."
