9.29

謝執事上堂，舉：「地藏道：『諸方浩浩說禪，爭如我者裏種田博飯。』」師拈云：「盡謂地藏坐一走七，殊不知，倒著麻鞋來似去。徑山窮天文、究地理，到底不識，者箇畢竟是什麼？」卓主丈：「一舉兩得。」

Ascending the hall to express gratitude to the monastery officers, he cited: "Dizang said, 'In all quarters they talk of Chan in a great hubbub; how can that compare to my plowing fields here to exchange for food?'" The master brought it up and said: "Everyone says Dizang sits one and walks seven, but little do they know that putting on hemp sandals backwards looks like leaving while arriving. Jingshan has exhausted astronomy and investigated geography, yet in the end does not know: what after all is this?" Striking the staff, [he said]: "To kill two birds with one stone."
