9.30

上堂，舉：「乾峯和尚道：『舉一不得舉二，放過一著，落在第二。』」師拈云：「乾峯慣與人解註，徑山則不然，舉一也不得，舉二也不得，放過也不得，把住也不得。何故？」卓主丈：「又添一箇解註也。」

Ascending the hall, he cited: "Upādhyāya Qianfeng said: 'Bringing up one, you must not bring up two; letting one move slip, you fall into the second.'" The master took this up and said: "Qianfeng is accustomed to providing commentary for others. Jingshan is not so: bringing up one is not permitted, bringing up two is not permitted, letting it slip is not permitted, holding it fast is not permitted. Why?" Striking the staff, he said: "Another commentary has been added!"
