上堂云。好諸禪德。念盡智明。玉壺引步。神虛鑑遠。寶鏡含輝。應萬化而無當。不墮諸數。湛一真而獨照。不外餘塵。且作麼生。行履得恁麼相應去。良久云。翡翠踏翻荷葉雨。鷺鷥衝破竹林煙。

Ascending the hall, he said: "Noble Chan worthies! Thoughts exhausted, wisdom is bright—the jade vase guides the steps. Spirit empty, reflection is far-reaching—the precious mirror holds brilliance. Responding to the myriad transformations without fixed match, one does not fall into categories. Clear in the one truth, it illuminates alone, not outside the remaining dust. But how will you conduct yourselves to attain such correspondence?" After a good while, he said: "The kingfisher overturns the rain on the lotus leaves; / the egret breaks through the smoke in the bamboo grove."
