1.14

上堂舉僧問洛浦。供養百千諸佛。不如供養一無心道人。未審。百千諸佛有何過。無心道人有何德。浦云。一片白雲橫谷口。幾多歸鳥盡迷巢。師云。好兄弟環中辨白。量外觀光不觸塵機。妙分真照。還會麼。雪月蘆花江上寒。曉風颯颯沙鷗語。

Ascending the hall, he cited: "A monk asked Luopu, 'Making offerings to hundreds of thousands of buddhas is not as good as making offerings to a single person of the Way who is without mind. I do not know, what fault do the hundreds of thousands of buddhas have, and what virtue does the person of the Way without mind have?' Luopu said, 'A wisp of white cloud lies across the valley mouth; how many returning birds completely lose their nests!'" The Master said: "Good brothers! Distinguishing clearly within the ring, observing light beyond measure, not contacting the mechanism of dust, wondrously separating true illumination. Do you understand? Snow, moon, and reed flowers are cold on the river; the dawn wind rustles, the sand gulls chatter."
