上堂云。恰恰無綾縫。明明不覆藏。鷲嶺豈傳迦葉。少林那付神光。現成處處合頭句。具足人人知見香。虛空說法森羅聽。不掛唇皮解舉揚。諸禪德。十二時中。直是滿眼滿耳了也。還體悉得麼。良久云。傍觀者哂。當局者迷。

Ascending the hall, [the Master] said: "Exactly without seam; clearly unhidden. How could Gṛdhrakūṭa transmit it to Kāśyapa? How could Shaolin bestow it upon Shenguang? Ready-made everywhere are phrases fitting the head; fully endowed in everyone is the fragrance of seeing and knowing. Empty space expounds the Dharma, the myriad forms listen; without hanging upon lips and teeth, it can be brought forth. Venerable Chan monks! Throughout the twelve hours, it directly fills eyes and fills ears. Can you still understand it thoroughly?" After a long pause, he said: "Bystanders sneer; those in the game are confused."
