冬至上堂云。陰極而陽潛。布生成之道。虛凝而照。旁分建化之緣。直得俯仰順化。應接無虧去也。諸人還會麼。鏡淨誰嫌差別像。谷虛自應合同音。

Ascending the hall on the winter solstice, he said: "Yin reaches its extreme and yang lies submerged, spreading the way of generation and growth. Empty and congealed, it shines, dividing aside the conditions of establishing transformation. One directly reaches the point where looking down and looking up accords with transformation, and responding and meeting are without lack. Do you all understand? When the mirror is clean, who dislikes different images? When the valley is empty, it naturally responds with the same sound."
