1.19

上堂云。明明百草頭。明明祖師意。於他未甞一。於我未甞異。若祇這便是。當頭觸諱。若祇這不是。甚處藏避。所以道。無是無非。不即不離。三世如來同宣此義。敢問諸人。且道。畢竟是什麼義。良久云。向下文長。付在來日。

Ascending the hall, he said: "Clearly on the tips of the hundred grasses; clearly the intention of the ancestral teachers. In another it has never been one; in oneself it has never been different. If this right here is just it, you directly violate the taboo. If this right here is just not it, where will you hide and avoid it? Therefore it is said: 'Neither right nor wrong, neither immediate nor separate.' The Tathāgatas of the three times all proclaim this meaning alike. I dare ask everyone: tell me, ultimately what meaning is this?" After a long pause he said: "The text that follows is long; it is left for tomorrow."
