上堂云。緣思不到。一片靈明。廓落無依。十方通暢。摩竭閉門無法說。少林面壁訪知音。若是本色衲僧。未舉步前薦取。

Ascending the hall, he said: "Conditioned thinking does not reach it—a single sheet of numinous clarity. Vast and without reliance, unobstructed in the ten directions. In Magadha, closing the doors, there was no Dharma to preach; at Shaolin, facing the wall, seeking an intimate friend. If you are a patch-robed monk of authentic character, grasp it before taking a step."
