1.53

上堂云。一椎下出生諸佛。生即無生。微塵中轉大法輪。轉無所轉。直得念念見物。無異相者即真。處處聞經。不落耳而方妙。雖然如是。光影門頭了事底漢即得。祇如賓主未分。影像未具時。如何履踐。良久云。風雲未犯曉。天水合同秋。

Ascending the hall, [the Master] said, "Under a single mallet all buddhas are born; birth is non-birth. Within a minute dust mote the great dharmacakra is turned; turning has no turning. Direct it so that thought after thought seeing things, having no different marks, is precisely true; place after place hearing sūtras, not falling into the ears, is then wondrous. Even though it is like this, the fellow who has settled his affair within the portal of light and shadow will manage it. But just when host and guest are not yet distinguished, and images have not yet taken shape, how do you tread?" After a good while, he said, "Wind and clouds have not encroached upon the dawn; heaven and water share the same autumn."
