1.56

上堂云。性覺妙明本覺明妙。與太虛等量。與物情同道。應色應聲。隨聽隨眺。入三世而非去來。混萬緣而無正倒。還會麼。雲日低時字雁橫。夜蟾落處孤猿叫。

Ascending the hall, [the Master] said, "The nature of enlightenment is wondrous and bright, fundamental enlightenment is brightly wondrous; of equal measure with great emptiness, of the same path with the sentiments of things. Responding to forms and responding to sounds, following along with hearing and following along with gazing. Entering the three times yet without coming or going, blending with the myriad conditions yet without upright or inverted. Do you understand? When clouds and sun are low, geese fly horizontally in the shape of a character; where the night hare sinks, a solitary ape cries."
