1.65

上堂舉舡子和尚囑夾山。他後直須藏身處沒蹤跡。沒蹤跡處莫藏身。吾在藥山三十年。祇明此事。師云。藏身須要無蹤跡。碧眼胡僧難辨白。沒蹤跡處莫藏身。門門廓達了諸塵。獨來將謂無儔侶。鬧裏忽然逢故人。柳線含金猶畏冷。梅花破雪已成春。阿儂千眼通身是。善應無方處處真。且作麼生是處處真底事。還會麼。益州附子。懷州牛膝。

Ascending the hall, [the Master] cited: Venerable Huashan [Chuanzi] instructed Jiashan, "In the future, you must have no trace where you conceal yourself, and do not conceal yourself where there are no traces. I was at Yaoshan for thirty years and only clarified this matter."
The Master said, "Concealing yourself must leave no trace: / The blue-eyed barbarian monk finds it hard to distinguish. / Do not conceal yourself where there are no traces: / Gate upon gate wide open, all dusts are understood. / Coming alone, one might think there are no companions; / Amid the hustle and bustle, one suddenly meets an old friend. / Willow threads containing gold still fear the cold; / Plum blossoms breaking through the snow have already become spring. / I have a thousand eyes across my entire body; / Responding skillfully without fixed bounds, everywhere is real. / And what is this matter of 'everywhere is real'? Do you understand? Aconite from Yizhou; achyranthes from Huaizhou."
