1.69

上堂舉僧問忠國師。教中但見有情作佛。不見無情受記。且賢劫千佛。孰是無情佛耶。國師云。如皇太子未受位時。唯一身耳。受位之後。國土盡屬於王。寧有國土別受位乎。今但有情受記作佛之時。十方國土悉是遮那佛身。那得更有無情受記耶。師云。剎中之佛。處處現身。佛中之剎。塵塵皆爾。還體悉得麼。良久云。六國自清紛擾事。一人獨檀太平基。

Ascending the hall, [the Master] cited: A monk asked National Teacher Zhong, "In the teachings, one only sees sentient beings becoming buddhas, not insentient things receiving predictions. And among the thousand buddhas of the Auspicious Kalpa, which one is an insentient buddha?"
The National Teacher said, "It is like an imperial crown prince before he receives the throne: he is merely a single person. After he receives the throne, the entire land belongs to the king. Could the land separately receive the throne? Now, only when sentient beings receive predictions and become buddhas, the lands of the ten directions are all the body of Vairocana Buddha. How could there still be insentient things receiving predictions?"
The Master said, "Buddhas within the lands manifest their bodies everywhere; lands within the Buddhas are likewise so in every particle of dust. Do you comprehend it?" After a pause, he said, "The six kingdoms naturally calm their turbulent affairs; the one person alone takes charge of the foundation of great peace."
