上堂舉洞山與密師伯遊山。見一白兔子走過。密云。俊哉恰似白衣拜相。山云。老老大大。作這箇語話。密云。爾又作麼生。山云。積代簪纓。暫時落薄。師云。即日責人。舊家富漢。兄弟相成。尊賓互換。突曉途中眼不開。夜明簾外機旋轉。騎牛戴帽異中來。百煉真金色不變。

Ascending the hall, [the Master] cited: Dongshan was roaming the mountains with Uncle Mi and saw a white hare run past. Mi said, "How swift! Just like a commoner being appointed prime minister."
Shan said, "So old and grand, yet making such talk!"
Mi said, "And what would you say?"
Shan said, "Nobility for generations, fallen on hard times for a while."
The Master said, "Demoted on this day, the wealthy man of an old family. Brothers help each other forward; host and guest interchange. At daybreak on the road, one's eyes do not open; outside the night-shining screen, the dynamic mechanism turns. Riding an ox wearing a hat, coming from within difference; refined a hundred times, pure gold does not change its colour."
