1.88

上堂云。化外路窮。石人斫額。劫前風轉。玉女搖頭。箇中消息難通。直下鋒鋩不露。所以道。動即影現。覺即塵生。正恁麼時。作麼生通箇消息。良久云。夜來木馬潭中過。驚起泥牛翻海潮。

Ascending the hall, [the Master] said: "Beyond the transformations, the road is exhausted—the stone figure knits its brow; before the kalpas, the wind shifts—the jade maiden shakes her head. News within this is hard to convey; directly beneath, the sharp point is not exposed. Therefore it is said: 'Moving, shadows instantly appear; cognizing, dust instantly arises.' Right at such a time, how does one convey some news?" After a long pause, he said: "Last night, the wooden horse passed through the deep pool, / Startling the mud ox into overturning the ocean tide."
