舉法眼問覺上座。舡來陸來。覺云。船來。眼云。船在什麼處。覺云。船在河裏。覺退後。眼却問傍僧云。儞道。適來這僧。具眼不具眼。頌曰。

Fayan asked Senior Monk Jue, "Did you come by boat or by land?" Jue said, "By boat." Yan said, "Where is the boat?" Jue said, "The boat is in the river." After Jue withdrew, Yan then asked an adjoining monk, "Tell me, did that monk just now possess the eye or not?" The ode says:
