舉僧問曹山。靈衣不掛時如何。山云。曹山今日孝滿。僧云。孝滿後如何。山云。曹山好顛酒。頌曰。
A monk asked Caoshan: "How is it when the funeral garments are not worn?"
Caoshan said: "Caoshan's mourning ends today."
The monk said: "What about after mourning ends?"
Caoshan said: "Caoshan loves to indulge in drunken revelry."
