舉魯祖凡見僧來便面壁。南泉聞云。我尋常向他道。空劫已前承當。佛未出世時會取。不得一箇半箇。他恁麼驢年去。頌曰。
Pointer: Whenever Luzu saw a monk coming, he would face the wall. When Nanquan heard of this, he said, "I ordinarily tell people to take responsibility before the kalpa of emptiness, to understand before the Buddhas appeared in the world, yet I cannot get even half a person. What donkey's year will he go on like that?" The verse says:
