3.11

舉玄沙問鏡清。古人道。不見一法。是大過患。爾且道。不見甚麼法。清指露柱云。莫是這箇法麼。沙云。浙中清水白米從爾喫。佛法未夢見在。師云。鏡清當時恁麼答。玄沙末後恁麼道。還相契也無。然則鏡清久不作佛法夢。也須是玄沙同參始得。

[The Master] cited Xuansha asking Jingqing: "An ancient said, 'Not seeing a single phenomenon is a great calamity.' Tell me, what phenomenon is not seen?" Qing pointed to an open pillar and said, "Could it be this phenomenon?" Sha said, "The clear water and white rice of Zhejiang are yours to eat, but you haven't even dreamed of the Buddha Dharma yet." The Master said, "Jingqing answered like that at that time, and Xuansha spoke like that in the end. Did they accord with one another or not? Nevertheless, though Jingqing had long ceased to dream of the Buddha Dharma, he still needed to be a fellow practitioner with Xuansha to get it."
