上堂舉石頭問長髭。甚麼處來。髭云。嶺中來。頭云。大庾嶺頭一鋪功德。還成就也未。髭云。成就久矣。只欠點眼在。頭云。莫要點眼麼。髭云。便請。石頭垂下一足。髭便禮拜。頭云。爾見甚麼便禮拜。髭云。如紅爐一點雪相似。師云。嶺頭功德眼。倦足等閑垂。紅爐一點雪。直下廓亡依。

Ascending the hall, [the Master] brought up: Shitou asked Changzi: "Where do you come from?" Changzi said: "From the ridges." Shitou said: "Has that merit on the crest of Mount Dayu been accomplished yet?" Changzi said: "It has long been accomplished; it only lacks dotting the eyes." Shitou said: "Would you like the eyes dotted?" Changzi said: "Please do." Shitou let down one foot; Changzi then bowed. Shitou said: "What did you see that you bowed?" Changzi said: "It was like a flake of snow on a red-hot furnace."
The Master said: "The eyes of merit atop the ridge; the weary foot casually hung down. A flake of snow on a red-hot furnace; right then and there, vast and devoid of reliance."
