上堂舉。僧問淨果。如何是本來心。果云。犀因翫月紋生角。象被雷驚華入牙。師云。不即不離。非取非捨。自東自西。誰上誰下。委曲也順俗亡功。驀直也應真不借。且道作麼生體悉。還會麼。珠中有火君須信。休向天邊問太陽。

Ascending the hall, he cited: A monk asked Jingguo, "What is the original mind?" Jingguo said, "From gazing at the moon, patterns form on the rhinoceros horn; startled by thunder, blossoms enter the elephant's tusk." The Master said: Neither approaching nor departing, neither grasping nor rejecting. From east to west of itself, who is above and who is below? Winding and accommodating, it accords with the worldly and forgets merit; going straight ahead, it responds to the real without borrowing. Tell me, how do you comprehend it? Do you understand? In the pearl there is fire—you must believe it; / Do not look toward the horizon to inquire of the sun.
