Ascending the hall: The myriad trees are cold and withered, but this one does not wither; the three months of spring bloom in glory, but this one does not change. Dwelling before the two modes [of yin and yang], situated after all conditions. Demons and non-Buddhists bustle about in confusion; working together with them, right in their midst there is more than enough leeway. The Buddhas and ancestors chatter on and on; having the same body with them, right within there is silence without contrivance. When you move, I am naturally quiet; when you are silent, I naturally act. Wishing to be identical, one cannot be identical; wishing to be different, one cannot be different. Just like the source of rising and sinking, how will you discern it? Do you understand? Do not ask who holds the handle of creation; turn toward the causes and conditions, and I see the root.
