上堂舉。紫胡見劉鐵磨來便問。汝莫是劉鐵磨否。磨云不敢。胡云。左轉右轉。磨云。和尚莫顛倒。胡便打。師云。見之不取。思之千里。劉鐵磨既不能見機而變。紫胡遂乃倚勢欺人。且道。其間事作麼生。莫是驅耕夫牛奪飢人食麼。要且不恁麼。爾道如何體悉。還會麼。不見道。無事上山行一轉。借問時人會也無。

Ascending the hall, [the Master] brought up: When Zihu saw Iron Grinder Liu coming, he asked, "Are you not Iron Grinder Liu?" Liu said, "I would not dare [claim so]." Zihu said, "Do you turn to the left or turn to the right?" Liu said, "Venerable, do not be confused!" Zihu immediately struck her. The Master said: "Seeing it and not seizing it, thinking of it is a thousand miles away. Since Iron Grinder Liu could not adapt upon seeing the opportunity, Zihu consequently took advantage of his power to bully another. Tell me: what was the matter in that? Was it driving off the plowman's ox and snatching away the starving person's food? After all, it was not so. How do you understand it? Do you understand? Have you not heard it said: 'With nothing to do, I take a turn walking up the mountain, and ask the people of today whether they understand or not'?"
