4.230

上堂示眾舉。僧問淨果。如何是本生父母。果云。頭不白者是。僧云。將何奉獻。果云。殷勤無米飯。堂前不問親。師云。世夢短劫壺寬。底人退步裏頭看。豹變文而霧重。龍不臥而潭寒。欲使人人雙眼冷。要須先瀝髑髏乾。

Ascending the hall and instructing the assembly, [the Master] brought up: A monk asked Jingguo, "What are the original birth-parents?" Guo said, "The one whose head is not white is it." The monk said, "What should be offered to them?" Guo said, "Attentive, riceless food; in front of the hall, one does not ask about kin." The Master said: "The worldly dream is short; the pot of kalpas is spacious. What kind of person steps back to look inside? The leopard changes its patterns while the mist is thick; the dragon does not slumber, and the pool is cold. If you wish to make everyone's pair of eyes cool, you must first drain the skull dry."
