4.259

上堂劫前運步。世外橫身。真證不可以言傳。妙契不可以意到。正恁麼時。虛淨斂氛。白雲向寒巖而斷。靈光破暗。明月隨夜舡而來。所以道。當明中有暗。勿以暗相遇。當暗中有明。勿以明相覩。且道。如何行履。偏正不曾離本位。無生那涉語因緣。

Ascending the hall: "Treading before the kalpas, stretching the body beyond the world. True realization cannot be transmitted by words; wondrous accord cannot be reached by thought. Just at such a time: empty and pure, gathering the vapors, white clouds break against cold crags; spiritual light piercing the dark, the bright moon follows the night boat. Therefore it is said: 'Within brightness there is darkness, do not meet it as darkness; within darkness there is brightness, do not look at it as brightness.' Now tell me: how do you practice? Bias and upright have never left their original positions; how could unborn nature ever touch the causes and conditions of words?"
